2022.01.27 14:17 jrwsucoug Cat has regressed into full time hiding after move.
So I'm currently about 2 weeks into a move in with my gf which includes bringing my cat (we'll call her B) into her home which already has 3 cats as well. We started slow with the introductions, kept B separated in a spare bedroom for a few days, introduced smells, let her explore the house with the other cats put away, and then the full intro with the other cats. As expected there was a little bit of hissing and posturing at the beginning, mainly coming from my gf's one female cat. Her other 2 cats are male and were much less interested. Anyways things were going in the right direction, everyone was cohabitating and gradually getting more friendly, B was exploring the house freely and even spent a couple nights in bed with us and one of the other cats. This was up until about 4 days ago though. Since then things took an instant 180 and B now refuses to leave the spare bedroom where she hides under the bed basically all day. We thought maybe one of the other cats was bullying her from being able to eat and use the litter, but that doesn't seem to be the case as we've observed the other cats checking in on her every so often and not showing any aggression, more just curiosity what she's up to. I'm at a loss right now trying to figure out what has caused this abrupt change of behavior and how we can help get her back to a comfortable state. B currently has food water and litter in the room with her so we can be sure she's eating, but I'm wondering if this is enabling her to isolate herself. Should we just give it some time and let her work through it or is there anything we can do to try and help. Any advice is appreciated!

2022.01.27 14:17 Jaxel1282 Use more short rests
TLDR read the title
2ish years into being a dm and I feel that the number 1 piece of advice I could give to anyone is to limit the way players take a long rest. The wording I use for this is taken from YouTube channel XP to level 3, you can only take a long rest in a place of safety. So at an inn or in a city, players haven't done it yet but if they want one in the middle of traversing the wilderness they can make a camp. I truly feel that implementing this rule has done wonders for balancing my game. Now random encounters serve a purpose. Yeah the wizard can snap his fingers and end this encounter in an instant but it will be a while until they get that slot back, meanwhile the monk can go bananas on their ki. It's also made encounter design far simpler. Before i really struggled with my encounter design because in order to actually challenge them i had to go big and combats took forever. Now there is such a thing as a short and quick fight. My party recently fought a dungeon mini boss and have had a few encounters since then and the spell casters are HURTING. Meanwhile the monk, rogue, and to a lesser degree the ranger are fine. Also now the bard's song of rest is kind of a big deal and makes some great rp moments. I talked to the party about it before I implemented this rule and they were fine with it and over a year later I think they agree with me.
I'm sure other people on here have different methods to get the same results but no matter how you do it, I highly recommend making short rests a bigger deal.

2022.01.27 14:17 Indecisive_aesthete How can i calculate the number of checkboxes ticked on google forms?
I want to calculate the number of checkboxes ticked by each respondent, but I see the ticked checkboxes with their items listed one after the other like this when I export Google forms responses to either excel or Google sheets.
The boxes ticked are seen like this.
Eg. If it says decorated bedroom, produced your own food recipes, I want it to say 2 since 2 items are checked off.
I have seen people use countif to count the number of boxes ticked, but they seem to have the checkboxes already in excel/google sheets. This is not the case with me, as I see the items in a row separated by commas.
Can someone please help me out with this?

2022.01.27 14:17 fitness_life_journey Ongoing Research for POTS
They are still doing research on this, but I found what they know so far really interesting:
A novel therapy, tested ex vivo, has been successful at correcting the dysfunctional body mechanism in Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS).The study was published in the American Heart Association journal Circulation Research.
Researchers have discovered how genes that protect against Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) become silent or ‘switched off’ and have identified a drug to switch them on again.
POTS is one of a group of disorders that have orthostatic intolerance as their primary symptom, in which a reduced volume of blood returns to the heart after the person stands up from a lying-down position. A main symptom in a third of POTS patients is fainting.
The researchers were from Monash University and led by Professor Sam El-Osta who said that while the gene implicated in POTS – norepinephrine transporter (NET) – had been known for several decades, past research had failed to find a genetic mutation responsible for the symptoms. This latest study revealed that the enzyme EZH2 is responsible for silencing this gene.
"We predicted that inhibiting this epigenetic condition could reactivate NET gene function and used a pharmacological drug called GSK-126 that could specifically inhibit EZH2 activity with dramatic results,” Professor Sam El-Osta said. “This is the first description of NET reactivation using a drug. The beauty is that it allows us to target very specifically the enzyme to reactivate gene function.”
Currently there is no specific pharmacological treatment available for POTS, which affects mainly people aged 18 to 50 years, 80 percent of whom are women. “We’re far from it now and clinical trials would need to be conducted, but the new drug could lead to better management of POTS,” he continued.
Professor El-Osta’s team conducted ex vivo studies isolating blood cells from patients with POTS who failed to respond to current treatments and cells from healthy donors. He said the sample group was relatively small: “Ideally, we’d like to see the work expanded in Australia and overseas and to have our findings validated.”
